Die hard RATM fans have been asking..”how long we gotta wait for Zach to do his thing?” All this watercooler talk filled with rumors....yeah yeah yeah...I heard La Rocha was supposed to do this type of record, no no no wait...i heard he was supposed to come out with a hip-hop record right? With no firm answer in sight, some feared they would never hear Zach’s fierce urges again, unless of course the gods above decide to reunite RATM with fresh spirits. Wait a second they did didn’t they? Or was that just a one time thing? Nevertheless, since the 1st assassination of RATM in 2000, it took 8 years for Zach to partner up with ridiculously talented drummer John Theodore (the Mars Volta) to form one day as a lion. "Its better to live one day as a lion then a thousand years as a lamb." Tagged by Chicano Photographer George Rodriguez, Both Zach & John take heed to the message and deliver a sonic sentiment to that entirely. The ingredients within are none short of that....caked with a thick slab of dirty drum angst and filthy monosynths hooked up to a feeding tube of distortion, these two lads created spatial backdrops of black noise that can rival the sound of a bonesaw 7 feet from your brain. Yes, that's what i said, if you don’t believe me, try giving the cut “ocean view” a whirl with your output volume at a generous level. Some may argue that this offering indeed is too close to a RATM record, but i first beg to ask why? Is it because Zach sounds the same? Can I just say one little thing? Zach is Zach and will and should always be Zach, so..to those fairweather Rage fans, if you are expecting him to flip it entirely on this album, please...think again. After all isn’t that what we have all come to love about him? Isn't that what makes him brilliantly fervent? Next.. I ask why is that so terribly wrong if their are similar attributes? I personally see many differences between the two outfits, however..the similarities between the two, are things music enthuses such as myself adored about RATM. Both messages ring a relative bell, controversial governments, socioeconomic realities, your basic slew of wake-ups and shake-ups that Zach loves to personally feed to the oblivious in this country. Its a voice that many of us have stood behind for years when giving a general "Fuck You" to a crooked state. I for one never wanted it to go away. And with all that's politically wrong at the moment, That voice, this outfit, this immolation, really couldn't of come at a better time.
